Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport’s New Terminal Project

The Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport’s New Terminal Project has been implemented to provide for the passenger aviation facility needs of Southwest Michigan.  The definitive goal for the facility is expressed by the Kalamazoo County Aeronautics Board’s leadership in their effort to provide an efficient, cost conscious terminal building.  In keeping with that goal the vision must be planned and critiqued to remain responsive to the changing demands of the community and the industry.  The plan must be flexible to adapt to the changes in need and function.  Finally, the plan must be implemented responsibly, considering issues of facility demand, costs and the level of service to the community.

Proposed terminal features include:

  •      Expanded security checkpoint
  •      Expanded baggage claim area
  •      Covered passenger boarding for all flights
  •      Second level gates for boarding
  •      Expanded rental car facilities
  •      Efficient use of natural light
  •      Building design allows flexibility.  Easily expandable in areas such as security screening, ticketing lobby and baggage claim
  •      Restrooms include a family facility
